E3 2019 gave us some gems for the coming months and left us wanting more. With the expo complete, it’s easy to fall into convention withdraw. Luckily, there is a cure right around the corner with Summer Games Done Quick. If you have been following along with Level Grind Entertainment, you know that SGDQ is one of our most anticipated events of the year. Usually prompting us to take time off IRL work to binge the event for multiple days straight. This year will be no exception. This wholesome speed gaming marathon has something for everyone, and their cause to raise money for charity just adds to the excitement of this event.
This year SGDQ runs June 23-30, and the lineup of games being run is robust as always. The talent shown off during the event is staggering. Games new and old alike, from nearly every genre and generation of the art form, end up getting crushed by players over the course of 7 days. While the players annihilate games live for our entertainment, viewers donate to the selected charity while fulfilling donation incentives for more speed-running goodness. Incentives include things like 100% runs (instead of any%), saving the animals in Super Metroid (or not), completing extra objectives, and much more. The charity they are raising money for is Doctors Without Borders, which provides medical care for those less fortunate around the world. If previous events are any indication of their success, then we are in for a record setting event this year.
SGDQ 2018 raised $2.1 million for Doctors Without Borders, while AGDQ 2019 raised almost $2.4 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. There is no doubt that this year they will be toying with a new personal best. You can follow this link to the schedule to check out what is being run at this year’s event.
